Based on historical themes, it celebrates the cultural legacy of the Jaisalmer region. A tale of culturally vibrant activities, the Desert Festival features key attractions such as camel polo, camel decoration, camel dance, performances by folk artists, competitions like Ms. Moomal Mahendra, turban tying, tug of war, matka race, drills by BSF and airforce, horse races, stargazing and desert symphonies at the dunes. Over 1 lakh people visit the festival annually.
Since its inception, I Love Jaisalmer has assisted the District Administration in planning and organising the events. At the Desert Festival 2014, Kioska/Booths as Tourist help centres were set up, collateral signage for tourist information were displayed across the city including hotels, restaurants and shops. On the eve of Desert Festival, Jaisalmer Fort was decorated with 10,000 lamps, an initiative of I Love Jaisalmer to celebrate the 2013 cleanliness drive and promote fort tourism in which tourists, district administration and locals participated.
