Air Connectivity For Jaisalmer

STATUS

LOCATION
Jaisalmer
YEAR
2016
Jaisalmer is a top tourist destination in India, attracting visitors, artists, and professionals from around the globe.

However, limited connectivity was a major hurdle to its growth. Although the Jaisalmer Airport was built in 2013, it was not used for civil flights until the UDAN scheme reinstated services in 2017. To revive air connectivity between 2015 and 2017, TILF launched a campaign to engage local business owners, highlighting the benefits of improved access to Jaisalmer. The foundation worked with DGCA officials and advocated for the cause through presentations and films. TILF also attempted to crowdfund an airline with support from locals and others who believed in the initiative and explored acquiring a Non-Scheduled Operator's Permit (NSOP) to facilitate air travel to Jaisalmer.
